All You Need to Know About Building Information Modelling (BIM)

March 26, 2022

Complex infrastructure projects require precise coordination. Collaboration can be impaired without a proper system to link and support involving parties. Fortunately, we now have a process encompassing the whole aspect of infrastructure projects, namely the Building Information Modelling (BIM).

What is BIM?

According to ISO 19650-1:2018, BIM is a shared digital representation of a built asset to facilitate design, construction, and operation processes to form a reliable basis for decisions.

Building Information Modelling means more than the design of infrastructure; it entails the complete tools, technology, process, and contracts involved in creating, operating, and maintaining infrastructure in a digital form.

In short, Building Information Modelling is a multidimensional process that helps people working on an infrastructure to share information and progress efficiently.

Building Information Modelling is a relatively new process, but it gains traction due to the increased effectiveness of a project using its system. Building Information Modelling works exceptionally well with complex projects that involve multiple stakeholders.

BIM’S Impact on Carbon Footprint

One of the most significant advantages of BIM is that it may predict incompatible elements in an infrastructure plan so that the stakeholders can revise their strategy and prevent unnecessary problems before they happen.

Increasing efficiency means reducing carbon footprint since fuel is saved due to efficient construction processes and management.

BIM can be used in conjunction with sustainability analysis software to analyze the optimal energy use for the intended infrastructure, constraining carbon footprint to only the essentials.

In conclusion, BIM is a robust process that enables collaboration in complex infrastructure building, operation, and maintenance. Parties in the field of architecture should be able to utilize BIM to promote their project to a new level.
